Personal E-book: In An Instant by Lee and Bob Woodruff This year I attended the International Seating Symposium in Nashville, TN and the last keynote speaker was Lee Woodruff. She chronicled her husband’s rehabilitative journey following his head injury while being embedded in an army unit while reporting in Iraq. She was indeed a prolific speaker and the “story” was fascinating prompting me to buy their biographical account of their experience (which I did via iBooks).
Educational audiobook: Three Little Pigs - I have been using the application called MeeGenius with several of the kids I work with both in the school setting and in my outpatient clinic. The app has a bookstore that contains many children's books. There is a library full of many classic children's books including Pinocchio, Three Little Pigs,The Little Red Hen and The Boy Who Cried Wolf for free. The application allows the student many options 1) the student can read and advance the pages with the touch screen on their own or 2) they can have the book read to them and the pages advanced automatically or 3) a combination of both. One of my favorites is Three Little Pigs and the kids always seem to love this story.
I have the hardcopy of this book and have developed the story into a motor group activity. It will be really nice to have the story on my iPad so the kids who are in adaptive equipment and have more difficulty with being involved physically can now really follow and be responsible for assisting in reading the story as well.
