Procedures for Lesson

Students will be introduced to the concept of assistive technology by using “Think – Pair – Share” exercise by answering the question “What do you think assistive technology is; what is it used for; and what are some examples.
Students will then be split into small groups (3-4) and will check out a digital camera/video camera from the school technology lab. As a group they are assigned to find three forms of assistive technology and take pictures. They will then as a group upload the pictures; compile a Power Point presentation that includes 1) a description of a the device 2) why and/or what the device is used for and how it improves it owner’s function or access in the school environment.
Assessment or Evaluation

Evaluation will be given at the end of the project. A rubric will be utilized for all aspects of the assignment: 1) types of pictures/videos 2) group participation 3)level of communication/interaction with peers with special needs. Group will be graded as a whole (not individually).
Enrichment

This assignment introduces students to varied types of assistive technology as well as the utilization of PPT, but most importantly in engages students with their fellow classmates with special needs.
